Michelle Ransom supervises a staff of twenty two school bus drivers. The AMBE has its own fleet of buses, and also provides Transportation for Cornwall residents that attend our schools. Based on the importance of the jobs our drivers perform, school bus transportation policies have been revised to include annual drug testing for drivers, enhanced professional development requirements, and CPR training. Drivers also learn bus evacuation procedures in case of an emergency.
AMBE fully acknowledges the need for and importance of a bus safety program. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the Transportation Supervisor to develop and implement a school bus safety program for AMBE students.
Reminder to Parents and/or Guardians
Please be aware that the first few weeks of school are always a transitional period for everyone involved. It is asked for parents to be patient during this time.
It is essential that all schools have the most up-to-date information, ie. telephone numbers for home and work, address changes, etc. Please inform the school immediately of any changes that may occur.
There is strictly no parking in designated school loading and unloading zones between the hours of 8 – 9 am and 2:15 – 3 pm and during recess time.
Section 6: Parking and No Parking zones of the Akwesasne By-law states that “no vehicle may park in a designated no parking zone”. Failure to follow posted signs could result in your vehicle being towed and a $50.00 fine.
AMBE buses are now compliant with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) guidelines which require all buses that are registered within the province of Ontario to have both red flashing warning lights and red flashing stop lights. The amber (or yellow) lights are no longer being used. All AMBE buses will be using the red flashing lights for both warning and stop lights. The stop arm on the driver side of the bus will engage when the stop lights are on, so please be sure to watch out for them.
Failure to stop for the red stop lights are punishable as follows:
“Section 175 of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act helps keep children safe by requiring motorists to stop when a school bus is stopped with its overhead red signal-lights flashing. Motorists must stop at least twenty (20) meters before reaching the bus, and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the lights have stopped flashing. Failing to stop can result in fines of between $400.00 and $2,000.00, as well as six demerit points on your license.”
