Message from the Director of Education

Welcome To Ahkwesahsne Board of Education!

Shé:kon Sewakwe:kon:

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to an exciting year filled with numerous learning activities and special events. The first day of school for students is Seskehkó:wa/September 4, 2018. Your child’s school principal and the staff have been busy getting things ready for your child’s arrival.

For the 2018-2019 school year, AMBE will continue to focus on Kanien’kéha literacy, numeracy enrichment and improving services for students with special needs. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

AMBE Food Services will again provide every child with a free breakfast.  Lunches are available at a free or reduced rate for families that qualify.  Enclosed in the packet is a hot lunch application.  Please complete and return back to your child’s school by September 6, 2016.  Please review the payment requirements carefully.

The After-School Program (ASP) is available for parents who need the service as a “latch key” between work and school.  You must register as soon as possible as this program is limited.

If you accessed either of these programs last year, please ensure that your account balance has been paid in full so that there is no disruption in service.  Both programs will begin on the first day of school.  As well, new registration forms need to be completed.

We encourage you to attend Parent/Teacher interviews and other events at your child’s school.  Each school also has a Parent Committee and your participation is highly encouraged.  You are also welcome to attend the meetings of the Board of Education, which are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm.  Visit the Board’s website at  for information on all of our meetings, school activities, and events.  Many of the important dates have been indicated in this calendar to support family planning.  Each school will post and provide a monthly calendar indicating any special events and activities within the school.

The wonderful AMBE staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to a successful year.
