Kimberly Terrance | Kanata:kon

Kimberly Terrance serves as a newly elected Trustee on the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education, proudly representing the District of Kanatakon. She brings more than 22 years of experience in business, organizational and social development, a background in community health and Indigenous Peoples studies, and previous service on the  Akwesasne  Board of Health.

An entrepreneur, advocate, and knowledge sharer, Kimberly’s work and experiences within and beyond Akwesasne have broadened her perspective and influenced her approach to creating space for Onkwehonwe people to be heard, building bridges, strengthening relationships, and understanding different perspectives. Her experiences growing up in Akwesasne and as a mother of two young children have deepened her passion for learning and personal development, and for finding meaningful solutions to the challenges we face today. This passion has led her to explore childhood educational models that align with historical Onkwehonwe approaches to raising and teaching children, and how these can strengthen identity and well-being.

At the heart of Kimberly’s service is a commitment to ensuring our children have the teachings, tools, resources, and support to be grounded in who we are, where we come from, and our place in the world today. She believes strong roots in our history, culture, language, and values—including accountability and responsibility to ourselves and one another—can foster confidence, belonging, and good relationships, providing our children with a strong foundation to move forward in a good way and contribute to a strong and unified Akwesasne.
