AMBE School Reopening Plan

AMBE has shared three options for parent consideration with regards to the 2020-2021 school year.

·  Return to school building with minimal transitions during the day and enhanced health and safety protocols; Eat in classroom; short outdoor recess; 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday); Children will be home on Wednesdays to allow for mid-week sanitizing. Masks to be discussed for students but required for staff.

·  Online learning – 3 to 4 hours per day, monitored by an adult in the home. Paper packets will also be required to be completed and returned every two weeks. All work and online attendance will be counted toward student grades.

·  Hybrid Model – 2 days in-school and 2 days online for grades 1-8 only.

AMBE has sought parent opinion on school reopening through an over-the-phone survey beginning on July 28, 2020, the survey is ongoing. If you have not heard from us, please ensure that your contact information is up to date. The survey has been emailed to parents who we could not reach by telephone. If you have not heard from us, please call us at (613) 933-0409 to complete the survey or to update your contact information. You can also email your current contact information to info@ambe.ca or inbox a message to the AMBE Facebook page ‘Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education’.

Please note that online learning is age dependent however most parents can expect their student to engage in online learning for 3-4 hours per day. Students will be expected to complete the curriculum at home with support of an adult. Breaks will be offered throughout the day and no student will be expected to remain at their computer online for 3 – 4 hours straight.

If parents select a hybrid model they can elect to switch to full time online learning at any point during the school year. If a parent selects the full time online learning model they can only opt  to return to school after the first semester (February 2021).

AMBE is implementing safety precautions at each of our schools. Temperatures will be taken prior to students boarding the school bus or if driven in by a parent prior to entering the school building. Students with an elevated temperature of 37.8C or higher  will not be allowed into the school. Masks will be required for the duration of the bus ride to school. All schools will be closed to students every Wednesday to allow for midweek sanitizing.

If there is a significant rise in COVID-19 cases in the community, AMBE may be required to close all schools at some point during the 2020-2021 school year. If this occurs, all students (age dependent) will participate in full time online learning.

The After-School Program (Latchkey) will not be offered this school year.
